FLEX MATTERS- Hear Their Stories-Gdiapers This Weeks Featured Employer

Welcome to our third story in our series on Work/Life Balance. We are telling the story of Flexible Work Options and Work/Life Balance happening around the country. We are calling the series "Hear Their Stories" and it will address Workplace Flexibility in large and small companies and across all sectors. We have some great companies involved in The Flex Pages and the Flex-Friendly Certification, and they are sharing their stories with us, so we want to share them with you.

Our third blog post is featuring gDiapers.com. We will be asking the same 5 questions week by week with the hope of sharing different perspectives on different companies and people. Today we are hearing from Jason Graham Nye, Co-founder/CEO of gDiapers.com

1.What kind of work do you currently do?

I am the co-founder, with my wife of gDiapers, a hybrid diaper system.

2. What is your current job title?

My card says "dad (co-founder / CEO)". And that's the order I like it to be!

3. What kind of flexible scheduling are you currently using?

We offer onsite daycare for all of our team. The facility is co-located within our HQ and has places for 60 kids from the local community too. Both our kids (Fynn now 7 and Harper 5) have used it since we launched in 2005. It started as just a nanny for our family and then as we built the team (now 16) we grew the day care too. We start our day at 6 am so we can leave at 3 pm to spend a long afternoon / evening with our boys each day. In the summer that means straight to the pool. Yesterday we were there from 4 pm to 8 pm! It makes weekdays feel like weekends and yet we still get our work done. We also take full advantage of the 4 weeks PTO offered at gDiapers for every employee.

4. How have flexible work options impacted your life?

As Founders we thought it was important to offer these things. Now that we have them in place, actually using them has been just wonderful. Running a high growth business with your wife is stressful enough. Throw in kids and it can get really difficult. The options here allow us to not just manage the situation but thrive in it.

5. Please feel free to share any other information about how you feel about your “flex working”

For Kim and I, offering parents a third choice in diapers that is much more sustainable than other alternatives is really important. But we really think that the flexible workplace we have created is just as important. It is a great feeling to know that everyone on the team can work in such a way that suits them and we achieve the goals of the business. Many doubted us in the beginning but the proof is in the pudding. We have a very low attrition rate and a very successful company.

Thank you Jason.
