FLEX MATTERS-Hear Their Stories-Whinot This Weeks Featured Employer

Back to blogging after a few weeks off to finish summer vacation and even although summer is over I am looking forward to a busy September. We have some great stories to share as we move through the next few months.

Welcome to our fourth story in our series on Work/Life Balance. We are telling the story of Flexible Work Options and Work/Life Balance happening around the country. We have some great companies involved in The Flex Pages and the Flex-Friendly Certification, and they are sharing their stories with us, so we want to share them with you.

Our fourth blog post features Whinot. We will be asking the same 5 questions week by week with the hope of sharing different perspectives on different companies and people. Today we are hearing from Kyle Hawke, Co-founder of Whinot.

1. What kind of work do you currently do?

Whinot is a virtual consulting firm that’s competitive with bigger firms because the consultants are working together, rather than competing against each other.

Whinot is Fortune 500 consulting at small business prices. Whinot allows independent consultants and other business professionals to work together on small business marketing projects, on their own terms. Whinot gives small businesses affordable access to the experience of a community of consultants, rather than just one individual. Each consulting project gets the best ideas from hundreds of consultants, plus a smaller team which works together to deliver the final solution.

2. What is your current job title?

My title is Co-Founder, but my responsibilities include sales and marketing, technology manager, content manager, project manager and full-time MBA student.

3. What kind of flexible scheduling are you currently using?

Whinot allows independent consultants and other business professionals to work when they want and how they want on small business marketing projects. We are not an alternative to the 9-to-5 job, but rather we give professionals challenging and engaging work to do from “6 to 7” and get paid while they do it.

4. How have flexible work options impacted your life?

Being a full-time MBA student requires a work model that fits my daily class schedule. Therefore, I understand what it means to have competing priorities and therefore need flexibility in the way I work. This student/entrepreneur perspective has helped me empathize with how my customers – small business owners and independent consultants – approach their day to day operations.

5. Please feel free to share any other information about how you feel about your “flex working”?

The workforce is changing. We understand that businesses are looking for alternative, lower-overhead work arrangements and individuals are looking for more flexibility and autonomy in the way they work. Whinot addresses both of those markets with our crowdsourced consulting model. Our community of consultants works together on projects, rather than compete against each other. This results in a more engaging virtual work model for the consultant and better solutions for our clients. Thanks Kyle.
